Our Words and Our Worlds
How many times have you heard someone say, “Actions speak louder than words” or “I don’t trust what people say; I trust what they do!”? They are tapping into ancient wisdom that understands words create action, or, in fact, what we say creates what we do.
In Hebrew the term dabar means both "word" and "deed." So to say something is to do something. Consider the weight of phrases like, “I love you. I hate you. I forgive you. I am afraid of you.” The impact of these words is profound and indelible, forever changing the dynamics of our relationships and self-perception.
Words are power, essentially the power to create behavior. By my words I both discover and create who I am. By my words I elicit a word from you. Through our conversations and our dialog we create each other. Do we create more life and wholeness or we do we create more darkness and division?
When God said, "Let there be light," there was light where before there was only darkness.” God created out of nothing. Similarly, when I say "I love you," I don't just communicate a feeling—I bring love into existence where there was once only silence. Our dabar also creates out of nothing.
So we must ask, do our words align with our actions? Do our actions create more life giving words? Without both working towards our highest good we fracture, our relationships fracture. But we begin to heal when we both speak and act towards our best and highest selves and for the benefit of others. By speaking transformative words, we not only envision but actively create new realities.
So who do you want to become? Who do you want others to become? Speak those words of life into yourself and others- right now. May your speaking create new actions and new worlds!
Dig deep…keep going.
